Scaling and Polishing

Scaling removes deposits from teeth, while polishing can remove some surface staining. The type of cleaning you need depends on the condition of your teeth and gums.

What bleeding gums can mean

Red, swollen or bleeding gums may indicate gum disease. A dentist checks your gum health and recommends care based on the findings. Persistent symptoms deserve assessment even when they are not painful.

Routine cleaning or deeper treatment?

Early gum care may include professional cleaning and advice on daily hygiene. More advanced gum disease can require cleaning below the gumline, specialist treatment or other care. A routine polish alone does not address every gum problem.

Keeping gums healthy afterwards

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth daily using suitable floss or interdental brushes. Ask for a demonstration suited to your mouth. Smoking makes gum care more difficult; discuss support to stop.

A useful consultation checklist

Describe when bleeding happens, how long it has lasted and whether any teeth feel loose. Bring a list of medicines and mention diabetes or pregnancy. Ask what the gum findings mean and when reassessment is needed.

Common questions

Is scaling the same as teeth whitening?

No. Cleaning addresses deposits and surface stains; whitening changes the shade of natural teeth using a separate treatment.

How often should I have a professional cleaning?

Ask your dentist for an interval based on your gum health and care needs rather than assuming one schedule suits everyone.

How online consultation can help

Use our consultation form to describe your concern, share relevant photographs and upload an optional report. After payment verification, Dr. Hiren Tandel reviews your request and contacts you about next steps. In-person examination may be needed before diagnosis or treatment planning.
